ABOUT THE BOOK
My Dad Brought Beavers Back
‘My Dad Brought Beavers Back’ tells the true story of how author Adam’s parents, Paul and
Louise Ramsay, reintroduced beavers to the Bamff estate in Perthshire - and played a wider
role in their return across the UK.
Ramsay said: “I started telling my own small children about the role that my dad - their
grandad - played in reintroducing beavers to Scotland and the UK, and gradually it became a
go-to bedtime story. Eventually, I wrote a rhyming version, and I’m delighted that Scotland
Street has agreed to publish it. Beavers are a keystone species that play a central role in
reversing the biodiversity crisis and build vital flood defences that we increasingly need as
the climate crisis unfolds. They were wiped out in Scotland 400 years ago because their pelts
were highly desirable. I was lucky to have a ringside seat watching their reintroduction, and
seeing the astonishing positive impact they’ve had, transforming the dead agricultural ditches I played in as a child into species-rich wetlands. I’ve loved telling my children that story, and I’m looking forward to telling it to many more.”
